Singapore to get a taste of produce from the South West of WA during showcase event

South West-based chef George Cooper and sommelier Cyndal Petty will be helping to dish up interest in the South West’s premium food, wine and beverages during an outbound trade mission to Singapore.

As the official chef for the ‘Essence of Australia’s South West’ showcase event taking place on Saturday September 23 at the Sofitel Singapore Sentosa Resort & Spa, George will conduct a series of live cooking demonstrations incorporating premium produce from the South West of WA.

Meanwhile, Cyndal has been named as ambassador for the event and will host a series of winemaker panels, as part of efforts to highlight the quality and variety of the South West’s wine regions.

The event is open to consumers as well as retail, trade and media industry representatives who will be able to connect directly with potential and existing trade partners from the South West and Great Southern regions during the showcase.

Wineries, craft breweries, a distillery and food producers will be among the South West representatives participating in ‘Essence of Australia’s South West’. Australia’s South West will represent tourism attractions and businesses, promoting a variety of gourmet-based experiences to attract visitors to the region.

The trade mission to Singapore follows the success of a recent delegation to Bangkok, which focused on exploring the Thai market and developing new industry relationships.

The South West Development Commission (SWDC) is contracted by the Australian Trade Commission to deliver Austrade’s TradeStart services across the South West.

SWDC chief executive officer Mellisa Teede said the Commission was continuing to work at a global level, to support local businesses to reach new markets for their products.

“Our trade activities are aimed at opening doors for local businesses wanting to export,” Ms Teede said.

“We are continuing to ramp up the South West’s international profile.”

The trade missions are a collaboration between South West Development Commission, Great Southern Development Commission, Australian Trade and Investment Commission (Austrade), Department of Jobs, Tourism, Science and Innovation, DPIRD, Australia’s South West, Wines of Western Australia, Great Southern Wine Producers Association, and Margaret River Wine Association.
