Arts and culture
Popular with visitors are the region’s diverse galleries, with many tourists taking up the opportunity to buy fine art, craft, pottery and timber furniture made from karri, marri and jarrah hardwoods.
Also popular are indigenous artworks by Aboriginal Noongar people. Overseas buyers are among those who have embraced the styles of the Noongar works and the stories behind them, with pieces having found homes around the world.
Events and festivals
The South West boasts an events calendar filled with festivals, concerts and markets.
Numerous food and wine, film and literary festivals offer a rich and fascinating mix of culture experiences.
There are many other regular events throughout the region. Examples include the Nannup Music Festival, Blues at Bridgetown and Boyup Brook Country Music Festival.
Public art
Unique and eye-catching public art pieces throughout the South West are proven draw cards for visitors. As well as permanent displays of public art, the South West is also known for its temporary public art exhibitions. Once a year colourful scarecrows pop up in the town of Balingup, and street art adds pops of colour to many local streets throughout the region. Also, make sure to stop and take in the trbutes to Noongar culture.
Performing arts
The Bunbury Regional Entertainment Centre and the Margaret River HEART are the main hubs for performing arts and hosts visits from local, national and international performers.
Community theatres are home to local performing arts groups.
There are many artists and not-for-profit art groups in the South West region.
