The South West has the highest building and construction value in regional Western Australia.
In 2019/20, the total value of building approvals in the South West was $537.2 million in 2019/20, representing a decrease of 17.1 per cent from the previous year of $648.4 million.
Residential approvals were valued at $376.1 million while non-residential approvals were valued at $161.1 million.
For the first four months of the current financial year up until October 2020, the total value of building approvals was $224.1 million. This represents an increased level of activity compared to the same time last year, indicating recently introduced government stimulus packages are having an impact on building activity.
In 2019/20, the majority of new dwellings were built in the shires of Busselton (375), Augusta Margaret River (180) and Harvey (146).
