Creative Industries

The South West region is luring creatives attracted to the region’s lifestyle opportunities.

Visual artists, musicians and filmmakers are just some of the creatives finding success from their base in the South West.

New and improved infrastructure is making it easier for smart and creative professionals to work from the region.

The establishment of a world-class data centre at the Bunbury library, for instance, led to an international digital animation studio moving its operations to the city.

The region is also growing its reputation as a filming destination. Drift, Jasper Jones, The Naked Wanderer and GO! are among the movies that have used the region as a backdrop, providing employment opportunities to locals in the process.

The CinefestOz film festival attracts film luminaries and holds an industry program, helping to cement the region’s status in the film industry.

The Creative Corner is the peak representative body for the industry in the region.

The Naked Wanderer was directed by South West local Alan Lindsay and starred John Cleese.

Jasper Jones was filmed in Pemberton.
