Regional Development Minister Don Punch has announced a $1.5 million funding package to secure the long-term future of the Dolphin Discovery Centre (DDC), after the popular Bunbury tourist attraction and non-profit organisation recently entered voluntary administration.
A Financial Assistance Agreement has been prepared by the State Government following a review of Bunbury Dolphin Discovery Centre Inc (BDDI) operations by administrator RSM.
The package will enable the BDDI to exit voluntary administration, clear debts with creditors and establish a sustainable ongoing operation.
The financial assistance, together with the formation of an advisory group led by the South West Development Commission, will support the Bunbury Dolphin Discovery Centre Inc moving forward.
The DDC Advisory Group will comprise key stakeholders who will explore and recommend new tourism and hospitality activities at the facility.
Comments attributed to Regional Development Minister Don Punch:
“I have been a long-time supporter of the Dolphin Discovery Centre and it has been a priority of mine to ensure that this much-loved asset remains an important part of Bunbury’s future.
“I would like to acknowledge the hard work of the staff and volunteers of the Dolphin Discovery Centre – and encourage people to show their support by visiting the centre and enjoying what it has to offer including an interpretative centre, and opportunities to interact with wild dolphins.”
