A roundtable has planted the seeds for how recovery and rebuilding efforts in the aftermath of the Bunbury tornado might move forward with the support of local industry.
Discussion at the meeting facilitated by the South West Development Commission focused on how industry could potentially work with the City of Bunbury and the State Government to further support the community.
Representatives from the private sector and industry bodies put their hands up to potentially assist in the recovery and rebuilding process.
Offers of support were put on the table for consideration as recovery efforts move forward.
An update on the impact of the severe weather event on the Bunbury community was shared by representatives from key State Government agencies.
SWDC chief executive officer Mellisa Teede acknowledged the work of the City of Bunbury in leading recovery efforts with the support of the State Government.
“The roundtable was convened at the request of Regional Development Minister Don Punch to have a discussion about what contributions industry can potentially make in supporting the community,” Ms Teede said.
“Industry has agreed to participate and do what they can to support the community.
“We thank attendees for their insights and ideas, along with their collective commitment to initiate meaningful actions towards recovery and reconstruction.
“Moving forward, we will continue to work together closely with industry, the City of Bunbury and other State Government agencies to leverage our collective expertise and resources to bring about positive change and support those in need.”
The Apprentice and Traineeship Company CEO Stan Liaros said there was potential for “apprentices in the region to provide support along with the tradepersons responsible for their on-the-job supervision.”
An online register has been established to provide a platform for business and industry wanting to register their interest in potentially assisting in recovery and rebuilding efforts in the aftermath of the Bunbury tornado.
