Collie’s medicinal cannabis facility a step closer

Collie’s medicinal cannabis facility a step closer

Plans for a new medicinal cannabis facility in the South West town of Collie are a step closer with federal medical and manufacturing licences awarded.

The Office of Drug Control (ODC) of Australia has granted Cannaponics Limited licences to cultivate medical cannabis, research medical cannabis, and manufacture.

The South West Development Commission welcomes the next milestone for the project which aims to sustainably produce pharmaceuticals and create jobs in an alternative industry.

The State Government committed $2 million from the Collie Futures Industry Development Fund to support Stage 1 of the Cannaponics Limited operation in Collie.

This Stage 1 operation is expected to support 50 local trades jobs over 12 months of construction and create approximately 24 permanent ongoing jobs including professional, technical, production and administration roles.

The project is also expected to generate around $4 million in revenue, with considerable flow-on effects for the Collie community.

Cannaponics Ltd has already purchased 65 hectares of cleared land near Collie for the development of the facility which will include a 1,000sqm greenhouse, laboratory and warehouse, and aims to have zero emissions.

The Cannaponics facility will be capable of producing 1,000kg of dried cannabis and equivalent extracts per year.
