The State Government is supporting this year’s Collie Community Bank Collie to Donnybrook and Return Cycling Classic as part of efforts to grow Collie as a premier cycling destination.

A total of $8000 over two years through the Collie Futures Small Grants Program will assist the Collie Cycle Club to stage the annual road race, which will this year take place on Saturday August 17.

The event is one of the biggest road races in Western Australia, each year attracting hundreds of competitors from around Western Australia and interstate.

The handicap event begins in Collie before heading towards Mumballup and then on to Donnybrook before making its way back to Collie.

In addition to supporting the race, the State Government is also investing $10 million into the Collie Adventure Trails initiative to establish Collie as Western Australia’s premier ‘trail adventure town’.

It is expected the world-class trails will help to attract local, national and international mountain bike and bushwalking tourists.

Organisations with projects that support the growth of the local economy are encouraged to apply for grants through the State Government’s Collie Futures Fund, which incorporates two funding streams.

Up to $100,000 per project is available through the $2 million Collie Futures Small Grants Program.

And up to $2 million in matched funding per industry-led project is available through the $18 million Collie Futures Industry Development Fund.
