$61,196 for boredom busters in Brunswick and Binningup - 10 September 2009

Local youth service provider Lot 208 Youth Incorporated is investigating suitable boredom busters for young people living in Brunswick, Binningup and Myalup.

It will use $61,196 in funding received through the South West Regional Grants Scheme to develop after-school and holiday activities for primary and high school-aged youth in the towns.

Lot 208 Youth Inc manager Lyn Watt welcomed the financial boost, saying it would help the increasingly popular service branch out to more young people living in the Shire of Harvey.

“Currently we offer a Thursday afternoon Kidzone for primary school-aged youth and a Friday night youth zone for teenagers at our centre in Australind, the monthly Catch Them Being Good Award, as well as activities such as kayaking, drama and art classes during the school holidays” she said.

“The youth really enjoy the activities, which are fun but also teach life skills and responsibility.”

Lot 208 Youth Inc was one of 66 projects to share in $3.5 million through the first round of the South West Regional Grants Scheme, which aims to improve and develop infrastructure and services in the region.

It is part of Royalties for Regions and administered by the South West Development Commission.
