South West Regional Grants Scheme recipients announced - 29 June 2009
Sixty six projects ranging from a community garden to a world-class cycle trail have shared in $3.5 million through the first South West Regional Grants Scheme.
The inaugural recipients of the scheme – an initiative of Royalties for Regions – were named today by Regional Development Minister Brendon Grylls.
South West Development Commission chief executive Don Punch welcomed the announcement, saying the injection of funds would provide a welcome boost to the region.
“I am delighted with the response to the grants scheme and pleased the funding will aid so many diverse and exciting projects,” he said.
The South West Regional Grants Scheme was designed to fund projects that help attract investment, increase jobs or improve the quality of life in regional WA.
“One recipient of this funding round is the Val Lishman Health Research Foundation which received $147,198 for medical research that has great potential to significantly improve health in the South West,” Mr Punch said.
Other projects to benefit from this funding round include underground power to help renew two local town centres, the Anaconda Adventure Race to support tourism in Augusta and further construction of the Munda Biddi Trail to support tourism through the Warren-Blackwood area.
“I look forward to seeing all the projects take shape over the coming months,” Mr Punch said.
