Gelorup resident Patricia Hughes has been appointed to the South West Development Commission board.

Chairman Stan Liaros welcomed the announcement, saying Mrs Hughes would be an asset to the Commission and the South West region.

“Mrs Hughes brings to the role a wealth of experience,” Mr Liaros said.

“She has a history of community involvement stemming from a lifetime association with farming and living in rural and regional areas.

“She is currently an Australian Women in Agriculture WA board representative, Western Australian Women in Agriculture vice president and a National Rural Women’s Coalition WA board representative.

“Roles taken on by Mrs Hughes over the years also include the coordinator of land care group South Yoting Catchment.

“A teacher for 26 years, she has also been involved with schools in a voluntary capacity including as a scripture teacher.”

The South West Development Commission board plays a significant role in the strategic development of the region.

“It has 10 members selected from community and local government nominations, ministerial appointments and the Commission’s chief executive officer,” Mr Liaros said.

Mrs Hughes said she was looking forward to the role.

“It is an honour to be part of the South West Development Commission and offer my service to the region,” she said.
