Conference to shed light on improving quality of life - 26 February 2009
Experts from throughout Australia will soon travel to Bunbury to shed light on something that has remained elusive to people throughout time: the secret to a fulfilling and happy life.
A diverse range of speakers, ranging from health to population authorities, will share their theories on what contributes to quality of life at the next event in the acclaimed Critical Horizons series.
Speaking at the South West Development Commission-organised seminar will be Bob Cummins, a professor of psychology at Deakin University.
He will talk about population happiness and how traditional barometers of life quality such as wealth and health are inefficient on their own to define a quality life.
Daniela Stehlik, who heads a team of social science researchers in the Research Centre for Stronger Communities at Curtin University of Technology, will speak about maintaining community and quality of life in the face of dynamic change.
Billie Giles-Corti, the director of the Centre for the Built Environment and Health at the University of Western Australia’s School of Population Health, will discuss improving quality of life through urban design.
Daniel Galvão, a senior research fellow at Edith Cowan University’s School of Exercise Biomedical and Health Science Vario Health Institute, will talk about how exercise can improve quality of life.
The Critical Horizons – Quality of Life seminar will be held on April 16 2009 at Bunbury’s Edith Cowan University.
Tickets are $175 each or $95 for representatives from not-for-profit organisations or $40 for students. The seminar includes morning tea, lunch and light refreshments.
