Seminar set to shine spotlight on the South West - 12 November 2008

Perth business leaders are set to discover how their peers in the South West are achieving success on a global scale.

A seminar in Perth on November 26 will showcase the international achievements of the South West region, from its booming mining sector to its flourishing wine industry.

South West Chambers of Commerce and Industry president David Kerr said a number of guest speakers were scheduled to appear at the event and promote the region as a global success story.

“There is strong international demand for the South West's mineral resources as well as its world famous wines and gourmet produce,” he said.

“This half-day forum will examine these and other industries, and consider the opportunities and challenges of doing business on a global scale from this vibrant region.”

Hosted by the Committee for Economic Development of Australia and the South West Chambers of Commerce and Industry, the luncheon seminar at the Hyatt Regency Hotel will feature a number of guest speakers.

Speaking at the event will be Alcoa of Australia managing director Alan Cransberg, Salitage Wines founding owner John Horgan, Chamber of Commerce and Industry WA chief economist John Nicolaou, Tourism Western Australia chief executive Richard Muirhead, Wesfarmers Resources marketing general manager Bill Moody and LandCorp finance and strategy general manager Frank Marra.

South West Development Commission chief executive Don Punch said the seminar in Perth was a precursor to the annual South West Focus Conference, which would be held in Bunbury on 2 April 2009.

He said the South West Focus Conference will have “engaging global industries” as its theme.
