Seminar to bring impact of carbon trading into sharp focus - 9 November 2008
South West residents attending a seminar in Bunbury next month will hear how carbon trading is likely to affect the region.
The event is part of the acclaimed Critical Horizons series and will bring together a diverse range of experts on climate change and carbon trading.
South West Development Commission chief executive Don Punch said the seminar on December 4 will explore the implications for the region as the new era of carbon trading unfolds.
“A carbon market is set to change the way the South West does business,” he said.
“To help residents understand the proposed Carbon Pollution Reduction Scheme and its likely impact on the South West region, we have invited guest speakers to explore a number of topics during the seminar.
“The range of guest speakers means the event will be of interest to people working in a variety of areas including business, agriculture, local government and industry.”
CSIRO scientist Bryson Bates will talk about “global warming and its likely impact on the South West” and KPMG’s Michael Wood will speak on the “business of climate change”.
Also scheduled to speak at the event are Paul Hynch from the Chamber of Minerals and Energy WA, Anne Bennett from the Department of Agriculture and Food in Western Australia, Melanie Bainbridge from the Western Australian Local Government Association and Wayne Trumble from Griffin Energy.
The Carbon Futures seminar will be held from 10am to 3.30pm on December 4 at Edith Cowan University’s Bunbury campus.
