Helping hand for In Town Centre - 30 September 2008
A grant of $25,300 from the South West Development Commission will help Bunbury’s In Town Centre continue to provide services to low income and homeless people.
In Town Centre chairman Geoff Oddy said the funding was greatly appreciated and would support the ongoing running of the centre, which provides low-cost meals to people experiencing financial difficulty.
“The centre has been operating for 18 years and has seen an increase in demand for its services,” he said.
“Not only are we serving up to 40 meals a day, but we are also seeing a newer clientele.
“One of our major concerns is the number of young people walking through the doors.”
South West Development Commission chairman Stan Liaros said the Commission was pleased to support the centre.
“The In Town Centre provides a crucial service to the city, including support and advice to help people better their circumstances,” he said.
“Without the centre and its volunteers and staff and also people who donate food, many people would go hungry.”
