Bunbury to host State museums conference - 9 September 2008
An award-winning documentary maker will be among the guest speakers at the Museums Australia WA State Conference being held in Bunbury this week.
Bill Bunbury, a broadcaster and documentary maker who is currently adjunct professor in history and communications at Murdoch University, will speak about linking museums and communities.
His topic is one of the major themes of the conference, expected to be attended by about 70 people from throughout Western Australia.
Participants will have the opportunity to visit heritage sites in the area, attend an old-fashioned movie screening at the New Lyric Theatre and learn about initiatives such as the Working Life Heritage Trail.
South West Development Commission chief executive officer Don Punch said as well as providing opportunities for historians, museum professionals and heritage consultants, the conference will benefit the South West.
“It will provide an opportunity to showcase both the region and the Working Life Heritage Trail to delegates,” he said.
“In addition to this, the conference will have a positive economic spin-off to local businesses over the course of the four days.”
The South West Development Commission is a major sponsor of the conference, which begins Wednesday September 10 with a workshop.
