South West provides inspiration to Moreton Bay - 30 July 2008

The booming South West region provided inspiration to a trio of Moreton Bay councillors during an ideas seeking visit to Western Australia last week.

The councillors visited Bunbury on Friday as part of a search for initiatives that could benefit the rapidly growing region, located along Queensland’s coast.

Moreton Bay councillor Chris Whiting said it was important to look to other regions of Australia for ideas that could enhance Moreton Bay.

While in Western Australia they explored areas such as Margaret River and Geographe Bay, as well as Perth.

“We’re dealing with incredibly rapid growth,” Cr Whiting said.

“And we have seen that this area of Western Australia is doing a lot of things right with regards to infrastructure and branding.”

The recently formed Moreton Bay Regional Council comprises the areas of Caboolture, Pine Rivers and Redcliffe and has a population of 337,846.

Moreton Bay’s growth rate of four per cent means the area will be home to almost 490,000 people in 2026.
