Reward an inspirational community leader - 21 July 2008
Do you know a person who has made a valuable contribution to your community through leadership?
Somebody like Ongerup resident Ross Strahan, whose vision to build a centre to promote awareness and preservation of the endangered malleefow led to a Southern Region Community Leadership Award last year?
People are once again being given the opportunity to show their appreciation for an inspirational leader by nominating them in this year’s Southern Region Community Leadership Awards.
Nominations for the annual awards are now open and people are encouraged to recommend individuals or groups who have made a difference to the community through leadership.
There are four awards on offer:
- The Leaders through Partnership Award – recognises community groups which have demonstrated leadership by bringing together a number of groups or agencies for a shared outcome.
- The Leaders in a Project Award – honours community groups which have shown leadership in developing a project that has a positive impact on people in a community.
- The Inspirational Community Leadership Award (two categories – Under 35 and Open Age) - recognises the achievements of two individuals who have demonstrated leadership in creating positive change and actions.
Southern Region Community Leaders Forum committee member Deanna Giumelli said the awards would this year form a highlight of the upcoming forum, which will give community leaders from Peel, Great Southern and South West the opportunity to network and share ideas.
“People short-listed for a leadership award will have the opportunity to present their project at the forum – and perhaps inspire a few of their peers at the same time,” she said.
The forum, which is supported by the South West Development Commission, Great Southern Development Commission and Peel Development Commission, will be held in Pemberton on September 3, 4 and 5.
If you have been inspired by the work of an individual or group, and would like to nominate them for an award, contact Deborah Rice on 0427 481 812 or email deb@arid.com.au. Nominations close 5pm, August 1.
