Indigenous Economic Development

The South West Development Commission (SWDC) works with the region's Indigenous population, known as the Noongar People, to support sustainable economic development for Indigenous communities in the South West.

The region has a rich tapestry of Noongar history stretching over 40,000 years.

Noongar art and culture is based on the unique experience and traditions and is beginning to be more broadly recognised in the art world through the Noongar Arts Project.

The Commission has helped develop a marketing strategy for Noongar art and assisted with a number of exhibitions across Australia and overseas. More information on Noongar history and culture is available on the Noongar Art website.

The Commission is also working closely with Indigenous representatives and other Government agencies to identify new opportunities for cultural tourism.
