Brunswick revitalisation to start soon

The South West Development Commission has contributed $15,000 to kick-start the revitalisation of the Brunswick township.

The funding would be used to hire an engineer to come up with a design to create a new 'town square' precinct.

The final Brunswick Junction Town Plan, which was undertaken by the Shire of Harvey and also funded by the State Government, was launched late last year.

The plan recommends a major upgrade of facilities in the town and includes such things as new themed signage, a street mall, new picnic shelters and barbeque facilities, traffic calming and a Dairy Hall of Fame.

Part of the plan's aim is to encourage some of the 1.3 million vehicles that pass through Brunswick each year, particularly tourists, to stop and enjoy the town's atmosphere.

Under the plan it is hoped a 'new-look' Brunswick will be achieved by 2012."

The first part of the town's upgrade will be street sign replacement and then work to create 'The Junction' - a community focal point on the corner of Ommaney and Ridley Roads.

'The Junction' would become a location suitable for markets or entertainment by raising roadways, calming traffic and encouraging al fresco dining.

Another major component of the project known as 'The Milking Shed' would result in the creation of an open air Dairy Hall of Fame. A new caravan pullover and an interactive children's playground known as the 'Top Paddock' will also be developed.

The revitalisation of Brunswick is part of an ongoing urban renewal process, being implemented throughout the South West by the South West Development Commission.

Other locations where urban renewals are proposed include Walpole, Pemberton and Yarloop.
