Bunbury Tuart Forest Walk

A sealed trail - suitable for walkers, cyclists and the disabled – has been built to link the City of Bunbury with the Capel Shire, south of Bunbury.

The 1.2 kilometre trail meanders through unique tuart forest between Usher, in Bunbury's south, and Dalyellup in the Capel Shire.

The path was a State Government election commitment and is being delivered through the South West Development Commission with $150,000 allocated for the work.

Completion of the path has made it possible to walk, cycle or push a wheelchair from Rocky Point to Dalyellup Beach.

The South West Development Commission has been working with interested parties including the South West Environment Centre, Indigenous representatives, local government, CALM, and other government agencies to develop the project.

The next step is to build interpretive signage along the path to highlight some of the natural ecology to people using the path.

For the past decade the community has been fighting to save remnant tuart forest at the southern edge of Bunbury's urban area.

In the green belt stretching from the ocean to the Preston River, high quality tuart woodland still exists.
