Projects improve Pinjarra-Brunswick region
Work is underway to boost communities in the Pinjarra-Brunswick area following the development of a wide-ranging sustainability strategy.
The strategy, initiated by the State Government to help the area realise its potential, provides a range of projects worth millions of dollars to foster development in the region.
So far, those projects have included:
- Employment of an agricultural development officer to tap into agricultural opportunities in the Pinjarra-Brunswick region.
- Launching of an “Escape for a While” print and television tourism campaign to raise the profile of attractions and tourist-oriented businesses in the area.
- New aged accommodation in Brunswick worth $1.5 million.
- $100,000 funding for a new library at Binningup.
- A $2.6 million police station and courthouse for Harvey, expected to be completed in 2008.
- An $80,000 restoration of the historic doctor’s residence in the Yarloop township.
- A $200,000 enhancement of Harvey’s historic diversion drain to turn it into an eye-catching entry statement into the town.
South West Minister Mark McGowan said a range of other works in the area such as road widening and public building improvements were also being carried out.
“The Pinjarra-Brunswick region has a lot to offer residents and visitors to the region,” he said. “The strategy will help tap into it’s potential.”
