Wireless for Bunbury

Work is underway to help Bunbury get “connected”.

The development of a wireless hotspot for the city is presently being investigated by the South West Development Commission in partnership with the City of Bunbury and the Bunbury Chamber of Commerce and Industries (BCCI).

“The proposed wireless hotzone would deliver free internet access to visitors and tourists within a designated Bunbury CBD area,” SWDC chairman Stan Liaros said.

“The service would offer web and email access via wireless capable devises such as laptop computers and PDAs.”

Mr Liaros said the focus of the project was not so much for Bunbury business people and residents but visitors to the city.

“Similar services are expected in the great cities of the world like London and New York,” he said.

“Wireless hotzones are presently being established in Perth. Travellers are often surprised by Bunbury’s lack of wireless access.”

Mr Liaros said the initiative was presently being investigated and if it proceeded would be managed by the BCCI.

“If successful, there may be an opportunity of establish more such wireless hotzones in communities around the South West,” he said.
