Critical Horizons - renewable energy seminar

Decision makers gained valuable insight into the future of renewable energy last month thanks to an inaugural seminar in a series of Critical Horizons events, driven by the South West Development Commission.

Almost 90 people attended the seminar, a follow-on from the acclaimed two-day Critical Horizons Futures Conference held earlier this year that attracted national experts to Bunbury to look at emerging global trends.

Renowned experts Dr Ray Willis, Cliff Jones, Matthew Keys, Mike Dymond and Matthew Rosser presented energy alternatives such as solar, geo-thermal, wind, wave and bio-energy.

“The seminar explored the use of renewable energy, the contribution it can make to the energy needs of WA, the cost, the constraints and the latest technological breakthroughs,” SWDC project officer Alan Cross said.

Mr Cross said the next event, entitled “The Breath of the Dragon”, would look at WA’s growing economic relationship with China and was scheduled for early 2008.

“These events are essential for keeping world issues in our communities’ consciousness so  we consider global trends in our future planning.”
