Manufacturing
The maufacturing sector makes a significant contribution to the South West economy, with the region being the largest contributor to this sector in regional Western Australia.
The combination of a growing population base, significant mining, timber and agricultural industries, and easy access to Perth and other markets, has allowed the South West's manufacturing sector to flourish.
Manufacturing activities include major mineral resource developments, agricultural processing plants, and a variety of cottage industries meeting the demands of the resident and tourist population.
While wood product and food and beverage enterprises dominate in terms of the number of manufacturers, minerals processing and manufacturing enterprises are larger with higher production values.
In 2006/07 turnover was estimated at $2.732 billion (most recent available figure).
The manufacturing sector continues to expand and grow, particularly with high value-added industries.
