Still time to enter South West photography competition

Tuesday, 13 June 2017

Photography enthusiasts are encouraged to turn their lenses to capturing the spirit of the region for the chance to have their work featured in next year's South West calendar.

Entries for the South West Development Commission's third annual This South West Life photography competition and calendar project are being accepted until the end of the month.

SWDC acting chief executive officer Anna Oades said some eye-catching photos had been received so far which highlight what an amazing region the South West is to live, work and play.

"For the first time in the history of the contest, we are starting to see photos coming through that have been taken with a drone," Ms Oades said.

"This is providing a new perspective on the uniqueness of the region."

Ms Oades encouraged people who wished to have a go at entering the competition to have their entries in by the close of the contest on Friday June 30.

"Capture on camera something special about the South West for the chance to secure a spot in next year's South West calendar," Ms Oades.

"In previous years, we've received photos of local landscapes, people enjoying the region's attractions, and rural working life."

The theme of this year's contest is "spirit of the South West." The competition is open to people of all ages, both amateurs and professionals. Photos must have been taken in the South West between January 1 2017 and June 30 2017 to be considered.

A total of 13 winning photos will be selected to feature in the 2018 This South West Life calendar, along with 13 runner-up winners.

One winner will have the additional honour of being the Chairman's Choice, while another will receive the CEO's Commendation.

The wall calendars will be made available for free to promote the region.
