Delegation from Singapore to catch Margaret River fever

After championing the Margaret River region during a recent promotion in Singapore, a group of representatives from the South East Asian city-state are being rewarded with the chance to experience the wine region first-hand.

The Singapore-based sommeliers are in the Margaret River area this week getting to know the region they helped to raise awareness of during the inaugural First Class in a Glass campaign.

The high-profile campaign, a partnership between the South West Development Commission and the Margaret River Busselton Tourism Association, targeted the Singaporean market between October 2016 and February 2017.

It encouraged residents of Singapore to attend events and visit participating venues and then share a 'selfie' or clip on social media of themselves enjoying Margaret River region wine, using the hashtag #margaretriverfirstclass for the chance to win prizes.

An overall campaign launch plus 15 satellite events organised by Margaret River region businesses were held during the campaign which aimed to promote local wine, increase trade and attract more residents of Singapore to the Margaret River region and wider South West.

SWDC TradeStart manager Mat Lewis said the guests, who include a media representative, will be even better prepared to talk up the region by the end of the week.

"As we prepare to run the campaign on an even larger scale in 2018, this week's visit is a fantastic opportunity to continue growing awareness of the Margaret River region as an exporter of premium wines and an outstanding holiday destination in the Singapore market," Mr Lewis said.

During their time in the region, First Class in a Glass industry delegates will sample what Margaret River has to offer by visiting local wineries and tourist attractions as well as attending Cabin Fever Festival events.

Both the First Class in a Glass campaign and Cabin Fever Festival have stemmed from a joint strategy between the South West Development Commission and Margaret River Busselton Tourism Association.

The Your Margaret River Region Wine and Food Promotional Plan focuses on enhancing the Your Margaret River Region brand, increasing trade opportunities and growing visitation.
