Public invited to find out about transforming Bunbury’s waterfront

Tuesday, 22 September 2015

A landmark vision for transforming Bunbury's waterfront will be revealed next week, giving people a glimpse of what the city could look like in the future.

Members of the community will be able to attend a public information session to learn about a possible scenario for the development of Casuarina Boat Harbour and Koombana Bay.

SWDC chief executive officer Don Punch said the vision that will be presented is the result of years of planning and extensive public consultation.

"We are grateful for the ideas and feedback received from local people throughout this process and look forward to hearing what you think of the vision that will be unveiled," he said.

"What will be presented isn't the end product and any feedback received will be considered when shaping the final vision for transforming Bunbury into a thriving marine centre that's also a vibrant recreational and tourist destination.

"We encourage you to come along to learn about what's possible and then tell us what you think by completing a survey."

The public information session will be held at 6pm on Thursday October 1 in the Harvey Room at the Bunbury Regional Entertainment Centre. Survey forms will be available on the night, and also online for people to complete at home over the coming weeks.

Efforts to transform Bunbury's waterfront have been guided by a committee formed to provide advice to the State Government on what marine and shore-based facilities should be developed around the Bunbury waterfront. It is chaired by Bunbury MLA John Castrilli, coordinated by SWDC and includes representatives from a range of organisations.

In early 2014, the committee invited people to have their say on a concept plan for enhancing Bunbury's waterfront infrastructure. Earlier this year, people were asked how they would like to see Casuarina harbour developed in the future.
