Hundreds turn out to hear about vision for revamping city’s waterfront

Monday, 5 October 2015

The South West Development Commission has thanked people who took the time to attend a public information session last week to learn about a grand vision for transforming Bunbury's waterfront.

About 200 people attended the Bunbury Regional Entertainment Centre on Thursday night to hear about plans to breathe new life into areas such as Casuarina Boat Harbour and Koombana Bay, including the Dolphin Discovery Centre.

SWDC chief executive officer Don Punch said the turnout showed how much local residents care about the future of the city.

"The feedback we received at the meeting and so far through our survey has been positive, with a desire by people to see the vision make the leap from paper to reality," he said.

"The vision highlights opportunities to maximise the potential of underutilised space with the aim of improving the shorelines for community use, boosting the local tourism and marine industries, and stimulating business and jobs.

"We encourage you to let us know what you think about what's proposed so we can consider your views when finalising the vision, before approaching the State Government for Royalties for Regions funding."

Copies of the 'Casuarina Vision Plan' and 'Koombana Bay and Casuarina Drive Master Plan' are available from www.swdc.wa.gov.au .

To provide feedback on the vision for transforming Bunbury's waterfront, complete the survey at www.swdc.wa.gov.au before 9am on Thursday October 29.

Printed copies of the survey can be requested by contacting SWDC on 9792 2000 or info@swdc.wa.gov.au , or visiting SWDC on the 9th floor of the Bunbury Tower.
