Spotlight to shine on community leaders at forum

Imagine a junior footy match without a coach, or a local services club without a president...
Community leaders play a significant role in organisations but their contributions often go without recognition.
That will change this week when a South West Development Commission-supported event shines the spotlight on a group of inspirational individuals and organisations, all of whom have been shortlisted for an award.
As part of the annual Southern Regions Community Leadership Forum, the Southern Regions Community Leadership Awards will highlight the achievements of outstanding community leaders and organisations.

Among those shortlisted for an award are:

Leadership In Project or Event Volunteer Based Organisation

  • Artsability, Life Without Barriers, South West
  • Mandurah Corporate Triathlon, Mandurah Corporate Triathlon, Peel
  • "The Forgotten Mourners" , The Compassionate Friends Mandurah, Peel

Leadership in Project or Event Funded Organisation

  • Youth Linx, Lot 208 Youth, South West
  • Katanning Harmony Festival, Shire of Katanning, Great Southern
  • Black Dog Ride, Lamp Incorporated, South West

Inspirational Leadership - Volunteer Based

  • Sandra Kennedy, Peel
  • Evee Knight, Peel
  • Graham Fisher, South West

Inspirational Leadership - Funded

  • Carrina Bradbury, South West
  • Dianne Gee, South West
  • Nola Drew, Peel

Award winners will be announced at a dinner in Waroona on September 17.

The dinner will form part of the Southern Regions Community Leadership Forum, a two-day event in Waroona designed to strengthen the skills and capacity of volunteers from the South West, Peel and Great Southern regions.

The event will give attendees the opportunity to participate in a range of workshops and listen to keynote speakers such as Jason Clarke from Minds at Work and public speaking expert Peter Dhu.
