Working to reopen Pemberton Pool

Wednesday, 7 January 2009

Work is underway to return Pemberton Pool to a popular recreation area where people can swim, picnic and enjoy outdoor pursuits in a spectacular setting of towering karri trees.

The pool, which has been a feature of the town since the 1920s, is currently closed and there has been debate between local groups over its future.

To help create a vision for the future of the leisure facility, a consultant has been appointed to liaise with local stakeholders and develop a management plan for the reserve which includes the pool.

South West Development Commission chief executive Don Punch said when complete the plan will set out the future arrangements for how the area should be managed. It will also form the documentation for the reserve order.

"The framework will include the care of land, ongoing maintenance and use of the pool, as well as the opportunity to develop a low-impact mountain bike trail," he said.

"We would ask everyone approach the project in the spirit of goodwill and cooperation in order to get the best outcome for Pemberton."
