Ambitious plan to make Bunbury the city of lights

Imagine the Bunbury Tower as the canvas for the region's biggest artwork. Now, using coloured light instead of paint, imagine decorating it in a way that would turn it into an eye-catching attraction.

Projecting moving, swirling lights onto buildings such as the Bunbury Tower forms part of a plan to transform the city's central business district and foreshore area using light.
The South West Development Commission and local digital effects company VUE DC are working on a proposal to use coloured light in a creative way to bring a sense of a magic to the CBD.

Under the plan, trees could be made to twinkle using pastel-coloured lights as a permanent attraction, while light could be projected onto buildings and other objects for special occasions.

We hope the plan to illuminate the city centre captures people's imaginations, drawing both tourists and locals into the heart of the city.

And because we want you to be proud of what the city looks like when it is lit up, we would like the community to be involved in planning for the project by contributing ideas during community workshops in the future.

An important aim of the project, which is being considered by Bunbury Council, is to ensure it is cost effective and does not become a burden. We will be looking at developing the project in stages and finding funding partners to help offset some of the costs.
