Shire of Harvey
Overview
In 2008 the population of the Shire of Harvey was 22,529, with the bulk of its strong growth coming from the locality of Australind. Australind and Leschenault grew at an average annual growth rate of 5.9 per cent over the past five years, with more residential land developments planned or underway in the area.
Located within the shire is Kemerton Industrial Park. The park is home to the operations of a number of major companies including leading international mineral sands producer Cristal Chemicals, infrastructure provider Transfield Services, silicon metal producer Simcoa and Kemerton Silica Sand.
Other local industries within the shire include dairy, beef, horticulture, mining, commerce, citrus (including Harvey Fresh Orange Juice), vineyards, export beef abattoir (Harvey Beef), boutique cheese factory and light engineering. Horticulture is a significant industry in the shire, and value adding through juice plants and wineries is a vital component of that industry.
