Time running out for groups to apply for funding - 11 June 2008
Groups and organisations wishing to give their community projects a financial boost have until the end of this month to apply for grants through the Regional Development Scheme.
The South West Development Commission is once again helping to make a difference to the region by offering up to $150,000 to help beneficial projects get off the ground.
Eligible projects for the Regional Development Scheme grants can include plans or initiatives that build up the region’s economic, community or environmental capacity.
South West Minister Mark McGowan said a total of $500,000 was available to the region through RDS grants.
“The Regional Development Scheme plays an important part in giving local people a boost to get a project off the ground that will have real benefits to the wider community,” he said.
“Many times organisations have great ideas, but fall short financially implementing them. This scheme helps meet the shortfall so the region doesn’t miss out on innovative projects.
“To date the Regional Development Scheme has contributed $3.1 million to the region.
“These funds have helped get projects like the South West Visual Arts Portal, Augusta Foreshore dual use path, Pemberton Mountain bike tracks and trails planning project off the ground.”
Other recipients of previous RDS grants across the South West include:
- Bunbury Sea Rescue to help build a new boatshed;
- The Shire of Busselton towards a feasibility study for a performing arts and creative industries centre in Busselton and;
- The Augusta-Margaret River Tourism Association towards the Jewel Cave preservation and redevelopment.
Mr McGowan said applications for the latest RDS were now open and available through the South West Development Commission. Applications for grants of between $5000 and $150,000 close on 30 June 2008. Call 9792 2000 or log on to swdc.wa.gov.au to find out more.
