Expose your business to China - 25 September 2007

Business people wanting to increase their exposure in China are being encouraged to contact South West Development Commission chief executive officer Don Punch.

Mr Punch is travelling to China next month as part of a Bunbury Port Authority delegation.

“We will be meeting with a number of peak bodies in Bunbury’s sister port and sister city Jiaxing in China,” he said.

“It is a great opportunity to promote the South West, its many attractions and the business and investment opportunities.”

Mr Punch said he welcomed inquiries from any businesses wanting to know more about the delegation or seeking increased exposure in the most populated country in the world.

“It’s no secret China’s economy is going through the roof and there is a huge demand for many of the products we provide here in the South West,” he said.

“I am sure there are businesses out there that would have something to offer. I’d be glad to take information on those businesses over with me.”

Bunbury Port Authority chairman Jim Brosnan, who is heading up the delegation, said Bunbury and Jiaxing entered into sister port and city relationships six years ago.

“During our last visit two years ago both groups decided it was time to look at commercial opportunities that were in the interests of both cities,” he said.

“This trip we are taking along Bunbury Chamber of Commerce and Industries chief executive Allan Birrell, Bunbury Mayor and port committee member David Smith, Coal Futures Group and port committee member Gary Wood, Planning and Infrastructure Minister Alannah MacTiernan as well as Mr Punch.

“This group will be looking at potential new commercial ties that will benefit both the City of Bunbury and the City of Jiaxing.”

Mr Punch can be contacted on 9792 2000.
