More cruise ships for Bunbury - 5 June 2007

Bunbury is continuing to break its way into the cruise ship market, with two new visits announced in the next 18 months.

Princess Cruises has announced that its Dawn Princess will visit Bunbury in late 2008 and its Sun Princess in early 2009.

The move follows "strong demand from Australians for a premium cruising experience", according to Princess.

The visit is also the result of the hard work and promotion efforts of the Bunbury Cruise Ship Committee.

Committee chairman, South West Development Commission’s Jon Birch, said the increasing visits helped establish Bunbury and the South West as a quality tourism destination at a national level.

“With an annual growth rate of around 10 per cent, cruise shipping is one of the fastest growing of all the different tourism sectors,” he said.

“The work of the Bunbury Cruise Ship Committee has helped ensure that visitors are made to feel welcome and that cruise ship companies are confident to put our city on the list of must-see destinations.”

Since being established in 2004 the committee has helped facilitate the visit of six cruise ships to Bunbury.
